International Guitar Night
The 5th UK tour of North America's premier touring guitar festival runs from Wednesday 29 February to Thursday 15 March 2012 (inc).
Since the first UK tour in 2007 a dozen or so great guitarists, many of whom have been new to the UK, have made an impression here and gathered numerous new fans and friends. All have impressed enormously with their sheer musical skill and desire to bring high quality guitar playing to a wide array of audiences from the Shetland Islands down through Scotland and England and across to Ireland.
Each year the 'cast' of the show changes and once again this 5th UK tour provides a wonderful and exciting array of musical talent with loads of potential for great on-stage interaction between three very different stylists.
The 2012 IGN UK tour line-up is :
Lulo is from Germany and a grand-nephew of the great Django. Playing professionally from his early teens with other family members, he has successfully toured all around Europe and Australia in particular. In November- December 2010 he toured in the UK for the first time with his own band and made a big impression (London Evening Standard 5-star and The Herald 4-star reviews). Lulo represents a unique style in Gypsy music today. He has taken the wonderful rhythmic and melodic music of his birthright and brought to it Latin swing. This unique combination has created a dynamic alloy of musical styles and emotions.
"Impossible to categorize as a player, Adrian Legg incorporates virtually every genre on his guitar in a virtuosic instrumental style with effects. He brought electric approaches to acoustic playing, creating a modern cross-over amalgamation in the tradition of eclectic folk playing that goes back to the 1960s." [Richard Chapman (2005). Guitar. DK Publishing.] Joe Satriani said of Legg's musicianship: "He's simply the best acoustic guitar player I've ever heard." Adrian of course is very well-known indeed in the UK and is a most welcome addition to the troupe's 2012 UK tour.
Brian is from San Francisco, and is one of the most interesting and influential performers of 'the next generation' in fingerstyle guitar. A musical romantic, his compositions are inspired by myth and modern literature. Hailed as having, ' ... one of the most unique new acoustic guitar styles on the scene today' News and Review, his lyrical, understated compositions integrate classical and percussive techniques to display, ' . a characterful bounce and spaciousness all his own' Los Angeles Times.
Brian founded The International Guitar Night in 1995 as a forum for the world's finest guitarists/composers to play their latest original songs and share musical ideas with their peers in public concert. The show has steadily evolved into seven critically acclaimed annual US tours, five UK tours, a CD on Favored Nations Records released in 2004, a guitar instruction book published in 2005, and a new CD for every season of IGN touring.
The IGN show is not a show entirely of soloists, there are duo and ensemble pieces; see Lulo, Brian and Adrian playing together at http://internationalguitarnight.squarespace.com
