North Sea Gas

Scottish Act

Since 1993 North Sea Gas has collected four silver discs. The first was in 1993 for Caledonian Connection; in 1994 they picked up another for Keltic Heritage; Live In Edinburgh in 1995 was the third; and, in 1996, the fourth was awarded for Scottish Destiny. And then, Caledonian Connection, went "gold" in August 1998. The band's current CD, Schiehallion, looks like emulating its predecessors.

For an entertaining evening of Scottish folk music, with some sing-along and comedy then North Sea Gas can appear in a three- or four-piece line-up, featuring ...

Dave Gilfillan ... is lead singer, plays guitar, banjo and mandola, and is founding member of North Sea Gas. Being a professional musician since the early 1980s, Dave has acquired a reputation for rousing sing-along vocals and big heartfelt ballads. Add to that a sense of on-stage fun and tongue-in-cheek humour and you can easily see why Dave's brand of folk music has taken all over the world.

Bobby Millar ... has recorded and appeared with North Sea Gas on a part-time basis since about 1985. Playing double bass and bass guitar he is well known and a respected musician in the rock, jazz, pop and classical music fields in which he regularly appears. Bobby has been a regular player in BBC Scotland's Hogmanay TV shows for several years.

Gerry McKenna ... a part-time member of North Sea Gas for many years, playing bass, keyboards, banjo or guitar, Gerry is another from the almost bottomless pool of talented musicians living in Edinburgh. He now appears with North Sea Gas on a regular basis.

Kirsty McLean ... is a new recruit to the band. As well as playing with The Wild Cigarillos Ceilidh Band (another Stoneyport act), Kirsty is a violin tutor. She has a wealth of recording and live appearance experience behind her and enjoys playing a wide and diverse spectrum of music.

With Kirsty, North Sea Gas can supply music for Scottish country dancing. The band stresses that it is not a ceilidh band but Kirsty provides that breadth of repertoire allowing NSG to "let rip" with the better known dances.
